Some years back, when an Indian company was reeling under huge losses, and was on the verge of bankruptcy; it was in the news. But not for the imminent bankruptcy; but for the king size lifestyles of its owner and his sons. On the one hand the trio was busy soliciting financial help (going in hundreds of crores)and on the other hand, they were driving costliest cars, dining in the finest of restaurants, and living a life of the richest among the rich.
Even at that time, whoever read about such extravagance asked, " if a poor man is mercilessly beaten for a stealing a loaf of bread; how can they(the trio, the rich)beg crores and live like a king at the same time?" or "who are they, businessmen or the thieves in pinstripes?"
The same question surfaced in my mind while reading a news story, about AIG --a company which on the one hand; is pleading the US government for another $40 billion dollars in loans to come out of the crisis; but on the other hand is arranging luxurious parties for its top executives.
So who are they(those who run big businesses), businessmen or thieves in pinstripes?
